IDEXX CE: ABC’s of the CBC: What, When and Why 

An evening CE course in partnership with IDEXX focused on mastering the complete blood count (CBC).

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Learn what should be included in the CBC—data, analyzer graphics, and blood film evaluation—plus how to interpret erythrograms, leukograms, and thrombograms. This course will cover when to run a CBC, why it’s valuable in both wellness and sick visits, and how to integrate the findings with common abnormalities.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Understand what should be included in the CBC, analyzer data, analyzer graphics, and blood film microscopic evaluation.
  • Understand the three groups of cell types included in the CBC.
  • Understand what is included in the erythrogram, leukogram, and thrombogram.
  • Understand when a CBC should be requested.
  • Understand why the CBC should be included with the preventive care program as well as the sick patient.
  • Understand how to integrate the data, graphics, and blood film microscopic evaluation with several common abnormalities in the erythrogram, leukogram, and thrombogram.

About The Instructors

Dr. Joy Bunkley was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. After high school, she left home to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. She ventured to the Southeast for her studies to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal and Poultry Science and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University. After Veterinary school, she decided to stay in the south and moved to Duluth, Georgia. There she practiced Small Animal Medicine as an associate doctor for 2 years. Dr. Bunkley later became Chief of Staff at a corporate Small Animal Practice in Norcross, Georgia. After over 5 years in GA, she decided to move back home to Los Angeles and continued her work as a small animal veterinarian. Dr. Bunkley ventured into shelter medicine at a local shelter in Los Angeles. There she practiced for 2 years before moving to the prestigious company IDEXX as a Professional Services Veterinarian for the Los Angeles region. Overall, she has a strong track record of leadership, medical and surgical expertise, and financial acumen.
